PrimaTile™

The demand for high quality ceramic tiles for image sublimation is greater than ever. Premiere's PrimaTile™ surface is recognized as being the hardest and whitest in the industry. UV light inhibitors are included in the coating process to minimize fading from harsh lights and sun. PrimaTile™ sizes fit virtually every need and although warranted for decorative use only have been installed in swimming pools, kitchens and baths, outdoor murals and as design elements in custom furniture.

Our Coating Process

After the raw tiles are delivered to our facility; each tile is individually inspected and cleaned before it enters the coating process. We reject over 20% of the raw tile for return to our supplier before it is ever coated.

The tiles are fed onto a continuous conveyor where the first stop is a robotic spray machine, which “sweeps” the tile with our proprietary coating as it passes down the tile line. All tiles are sprayed in a clean room. A precise millage of coating is applied each and every time. We three finishes – Gloss, Satin, and Matte. Aluminum Oxide is added to achieve the satin or matte finish and to provide a more scratch resistant surface for sublimation.

Next stop is the curing over where the coating is cured at a high temperature and varies depending on the substrate being coated. The conveyor continues for over 100 feet to allow for the cooling of the tiles before final inspection and packaging. Again, each and every tile is inspected for defects before bagging and packing.

Premiere Finishing & Coating has recently received the results of some testing done by our coating supplier. While we only warrant our coated tiles for decorative purposes, we feel you will find the following information informative.

Light Fastness of Ink and Coating PrimaTile’s™ surface is widely recognized as the whitest available and incorporates UV light inhibitors in the coating process to minimize fading from harsh light and the sun. Our PrimaTile ™ passed over 200 hours of Xenon Arc Lamp exposure with no fade, no ink color change, and no yellowing.

Concentrated Chlorine Exposure - Our PrimaTile ™ exhibited no change after 800 hours of exposure in a concentrated test. The concentration of Chlorine was 1000 times what you would normally find in the common swimming pool.

Pencil Hardness Our PrimaTile ™ coating attained a pencil hardness of 8H for the Matte finish, 7H for the Satin, and 3H for the Gloss finish.

Extra Protection We have found excellent results by simply applying Min-Wax Urethane Floor Coating (found in any home improvement store) over our coated tile. You should find excellent inter-coat adhesion with PrimaTile ™. Some people have even used them on floors! While we do not think it is necessary, you may use a spray on coating such as “Superfrog – Frog Juice” for extra UV protection when doing tiles or murals for outdoors use.

More test results are currently in process.
